CHARLOTTETOWN – For 14 years the staff at DeltaWare have been holding an annual 5K fun run, and using the opportunity to support charitable causes.
“It started primarily as a wellness activity for staff that allowed us to have fun, while giving back to the community,” said Susan MacPhail, human resources manager at the Charlottetown-based IT company. “We select a charity each year and the funds raised all go to that charity.”
This year’s event will take place on Saturday, June 10, and will be in support of the P.E.I. chapter of the Children’s Wish Foundation.

“Each year we have ‘Learn to Run 5K’ groups who choose our run as their goal run, so it’s very rewarding as we get to watch people cross the finish line, many of them for the first time.”
Turnout for the event has varied in past years, and this year it is up against the Points East Lighthouse Run-Relay in Souris, which MacPhail said has had an impact on them. But she hopes to have 150-200 or more runners and walkers out on Saturday.

The fun run is organized each year by a committee of DeltaWare employees, according to MacPhail, who said it is an important priority for the staff to give back to their community.
For those who don’t wish to run, a 3K walk is also offered.
The course is relatively flat, running through historic downtown Charlottetown.
“It’s a favourite of many runners because it’s flat for the most part and also goes along the waterfront in Victoria Park, which is absolutely beautiful,” she said.
