GASPEREAU VALLEY, N.S. – It seems runners enjoy their wine, especially when it’s for a good cause.
That has been the case at the Brigadoon Wine & Dash, which is expecting more than 400 participants for its third annual event on Sunday, June 4.
“The goal of the event is to raise the funds required to support our camp programs and ensure that no child will ever be turned away from camp due to financial reasons,” said Sarah Murphy, marketing communications officer at Brigadoon Village. “Brigadoon recognizes the financial strain that a chronic illness can have on a family, so we operate on a pay-what-you-can fee structure.”

The third annual Brigadoon Wine & Dash will take place through vineyards in the Gaspereau Valley on Sunday, June 4 in support of Brigadoon Village.

Brigadoon Village is a non-profit recreation facility in the Annapolis Valley offering camp programming to children and youth living with health conditions and other life challenges. Its 13 summer camp programs serve children and youth dealing with blindness/visual impairment, epilepsy, congenital heart issues, arthritis, bereavement, parental mental illness, lung health, craniofacial/facial differences, kidney disease, Crohns/colitis/IBD/ostomy/cecostomoy, cancer, and celiac disease.
Brigadoon does not receive any government funding for its operations, meaning it relies on the generosity of its donors, and fundraising.
“A successful Wine & Dash event will ensure that we can continue to transform the lives of children living with chronic conditions, chronic illnesses, and special needs,” said Murphy.
Executive director David Graham conceived the idea of the Wine & Dash event after seeing a similar obstacle course on television.
“We knew that the vineyards in Nova Scotia were the perfect place to host a summer time event,” she said.
Three different route options are offered at the event (distances approximate), all including the Grand Pre National Historic Site, and various vineyards. The 5K includes Luckett Vineyards and Domaine de Grand Pre, the 10K includes L’Acadie Vineyards, Gaspereau Vineyards and Domaine de Grand Pre, and the 15K includes Luckett Vineyards, L’Acadie Vineyards, Gaspereau Vineyards and Domaine de Grand Pre.
Participants are bused to their starting vineyard after signing up at the Grand Pre historic site, and then run to each vineyard.
