SAINT-FRANCOIS, N.B. – One of New Brunswick’s longest running race events will return this weekend with the 42nd annual Demi-Marathon Saint-Francois on Sunday, Sept. 3.
The event, which has included half marathon and 8K distances in the past, will be adding a new 5K race to the lineup this year.
“The first 100 registered runners for the 8K and 21.1K races will be receiving a jersey from Sports Experts,” said race director Gaetane Duval. “Also, for the new added 5K race, the first 100 registered runners will be receiving a jersey from Uni.”

The 42nd annual Demi-Marathon Saint-Francois will take place in Saint-Francois, N.B. on Sunday, Sept. 3. Shown here are participants during last year’s event.

Also offered this year are 3K and 1K races, with support of the Medical Society of New Brunswick, as well as 8K and 3K walks.
The half marathon and 8K events will start at the Saint-Francois community hall at 9 a.m., followed by the 5K 10 minutes later. The 3K and 1K events will take place on Frontiere Street at 9:20 a.m.
Many prizes will be awarded, with special medals presented to the top three finishers in each category. Cash prizes of $200 will also be awarded to the male and female winners.
A cash prize of $300 will be offered to any male or female that breaks the course record for the half marathon, something that hasn’t been done for the past three decades. Patty Blanchard set the female record with her 1:18:38 finish in 1987, while Scott Hare set the mark for males one year later with his 1:09:17 finish.
The half marathon race is also being included in the Run New Brunswick Super Series this year.
