HALIFAX – The route was given a slight change, but the purpose remained the same. Get out and start the New Year right.
The annual Resolution Run took place in Halifax on New Year’s Day, once again drawing a large crowd of participants.
“It went well,” said John Acheson, events manager for The Running Room, which hosted the event. “It was raining and quite wet, but people still had fun at the event and enjoyed the new route.”

Much of this year’s 5K run took place on the Chain of Lakes Trail, near the Canadian Diabetes Association office. An estimated 350 participants attended in spite of the weather.
Last year saw two Resolutions Runs held in the Halifax area, one in Halifax and a second in Bedford, both of which drew large numbers. This year’s total was down from the combined total of last year, but relatively consistent, according to Acheson.
“Primarily we promote it as more of a fun run type of deal,” he said. “The big draw is that it’s a way especially new runners or people looking to get out and start the year off right, to enjoy the festivities in a positive manner.”
As with other Resolution Runs around the region, participants each received a new pink or blue jacket, and then gathered afterwards for hot chocolate, coffee and cookies.
“It’s 5K and a nice run to start the New Year, and enjoy the celebration of that,” he said.
