MONCTON, N.B. – They ran, they walked, and they raised money for Moncton’s homeless.
Harvest House Atlantic hosted its fundraising walk/run, Spring 2 Action, this morning, and Danny Gallant, manager of Harvest House’s homeless shelter, declared the event a success.
“Our walk was amazing this morning,” said Gallant. “It was great having so many people out to support a great cause.”
Participants in the Spring 2 Action walk/run in Moncton, N.B. on Saturday, March 18.
He said he was pleased with the turnout, which included teams, partners and individuals from around the city.
Shaine Savoie walked the 2K with her four-month-old daughter, and said she loved it.
“It was great to see everyone there: adults, kids, dogs, lots of people I knew but plenty of new faces as well,” said Savoie, who worked at Harvest House for about five years.
Participants had the choice of the 2K walk or the 5K run, with many taking part in each.
“I loved that the walk was short enough for young kids to join and there was a lot for them to do afterwards,” said Savoie. “It was definitely a fun event that helps provide for the needs of the homeless right in our own community.”
All proceeds raised from the event go directly to services that help clothe, feed and house men, women and families in need. Harvest House also helps homeless people find housing, schooling and sustainable employment, thereby reducing the rate of homelessness in the community.
