LEWISVILLE, N.B. – The cheetah on the medal says it all. Paul Thibodeau is expecting some fast runners to come out for New Brunswick’s newest race.
The inaugural Crossman Invitational Open Mile will be held in the Moncton suburb of Lewiston on Saturday, May 13, dedicated to the memory of the late Norm Crossman, a long-time Moncton city councillor and former mayor of Lewsiville.
“Norm was a very popular councillor for Moncton and an avid volunteer,” said Thibodeau. “He did so much for his community. It’s a fitting tribute to this generous man.”

Participants in the inaugural Crossman Invitational Open Mile will receive this medal after the race on Saturday, May 13.

Crossman’s son Shawn, a current Ward 1 city councillor in Moncton, will be on hand to help kick off the new race Saturday morning.
The 1-mile race will take a fast point-to-point route along Highlandview Drive to finish up at the Crossman Community Centre/Kay Arena in Lewisville.
“I decided to host this because there aren’t many road race options in the Moncton area on the RunNB calendar,” said Thibodeau. “Also, the mile is not a race that is run very much anymore.”
Hoping to make the event appealing to youth and families, he set the
registration fee at only $5, and also added a 4x400 relay option for
those who do not want to run the full distance.
Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers, and individual medals to the members of the top three teams. A permanent trophy will also be engraved with the winners’ names and displayed at the centre all year long.
“This will be an annual event and we hope to grow it to the point where we can offer attractive prize money, etc.,” said Thibodeau. “We’re looking to attract elite runners.”
