QUISPAMSIS, N.B. – The busy summer racing season will resume here this weekend with the August running of the Run for Renee 5K.
Dean Strowbridge, who organizes the monthly race series with Jeff Queen said this month’s race, which will take place on Sunday, Aug. 20, should have participation numbers consistent with other recent runs.
“It’s looking good,” he said. “Thursday and Friday will be our big days to start getting the runners. I’m sure we’ll have about 20.”
Last year’s August run drew 25 participants, and was won by local runner Evan Arseneault, with a time of 16:18.

Steve Vienneau and Shelley Doucet were among the participants in last year’s August Run for Renee 5K. This year’s race will take place in Quispamsis, N.B. on Sunday, Aug. 20.

Strowbridge, coming off a big weekend himself at Marathon by the Sea in Saint John, where he won the 5K and 10K races in a repeat performance from last year, said he plans to do the Run for Renee himself again this weekend. Other than that, he is not sure about who will be participating.
“Kevin Curnock is back in it, but I’m not sure who else,” he said.
“I’m loving it. I find, as we get through the season, the bigger the names get, so hopefully things are going to be the same, as far as that goes.”
The event is held in every non-winter month of the year in memory of Strowbridge’s mother Renee, with proceeds going towards the local kidney foundation.
