QUISPAMSIS, N.B. – Only two weeks after the May Run for Renee 5K, the series will be back for its June offering on Sunday, June 4.
About 25 runners are signed up for the event so far, and Dean Strowbridge is expecting to add a few more during the next couple of days.
“We had 43 for both races so far (April and May), and I assume this one will probably be the same,” said Strowbridge, who started the event last year in support of the kidney foundation, in memory of his mother. “It looks like a sunny day, and hopefully there will be no wind, so we can get some PBs.”

Strowbridge works with Run New Brunswick when planning the dates for the seven monthly runs, in an effort to minimize conflicts with other events taking place. Special effort is made to avoid events in the local Saint John area, as well as the larger events, such as the Fredericton Marathon and Legs for Literacy in Moncton.
He made the same effort last year, but still managed to come up against the 5K provincial championship in Lameque, which he admitted was a mistake.
“I wasn’t most people down here would go to Lameque, because it’s about a five-hour drive… but a lot went up,” said Strowbridge.
Managing the busy schedule of events in New Brunswick is the main reason why this year’s June run is being held so soon after the May event, he said.
“I think there are 60-70 races this year, so obviously they’re going to be on the same day as some things, but nothing local or anything big,” said Strowbridge. “It’s out of respect for them too, where I have seven of them, I kind of have to not put them on the same date as theirs, when they are only once a year.”
