GRAND BAY-WESTFIELD, N.B. – When it comes time to raise money for your school, there is one idea that usually works in this area.
“We have a lot of runners here in Grand Bay-Westfield, and the middle school down the road organizes one each spring and it is very popular,” said Steve Lavoie, a teacher at Westfield Elementary School. “So I talked with my principal and we decided to try it and see. All the money will be used to purchase technology equipment.”
The inaugural Westfield School Blue Fox 5K will take place on Saturday, Oct. 14, starting at the school at 9 a.m.

The route will include a trip down beautiful Nerepis Road to Route 102, before turning around to come back to the school.
“The whole 5K is on flat ground,” said Lavoie, who is organizing the event and will help from about 10 staff members on race day. “There are no hills and participants will be running/walking along the beautiful St. John River.”
Although the race will not be officially timed, an electronic clock will be in place at the finish line, and placings will be tracked.
Also included on the day will be a 1K run/walk for children between the ages of five and 14. This run will be from the school to Brundage Point and back.
