ALMA, N.B. – In celebration of Canada 150, this year’s Fundy Circuit Ultra Marathon event was capped at 150 participants. The result? It’s been sold out since April.
The second annual event at Fundy National Park will take place o n Saturday, Sept. 23, and race director Mike Vautour is looking forward to a successful day on the trail.
“The goal is to help motivate people to enjoy the beautiful outdoors that surrounds us in New Brunswick,” he said. “It also gives competitive trail runners the chance to compete against each other and it gives the opportunity to others to discover a new sport.”

The run got started last year after Vautour and a group of other like-minded folks noticed the growing interest in trail running, and that there were not a lot of those types of events around. The trail networks at Fundy National Park, with plenty of elevation and technical terrain including the 50K loop known as the Fundy Circuit, seemed like the perfect place to do it.
The event is a joint effort between Outdoor Elements (an outdoor store in Sussex), non-profit organization the Fundy Guild, and Fundy National Park.
Distances offered are the 50K ultra marathon, the 50K relay, a 20K, a 10K, and a 1.5K kids’ race. All are sold out.
“The course is amazing, but also very tough, thanks to the elevation gain and technical terrain,” said Vautour. “You really get to see some of the Maritimes’ nicest trails. The 50K loop goes along the great Bay of Fundy, up in the highlands, through waterfalls and rivers… there is truly no other race like it.”
Although the races are sold out, Vautour said they are inviting the general public to come out to provide encouragement and see the runners perform.
